I became partners with Geoff Hotblack in 1981; our ‘divorce’ in 1986 was friendly and I bought his half back in 1998 when he retired to his guns, cars and the country. I have worked in Islington on and off since 1976 and sold my first house in Theberton Street for £26,000! Remarkably HD is the oldest agent left in Islington now; many having been swallowed up by the larger and flashier types. Being the company insomniac, I am usually in the office at 7am but leave early to go running and be with my wife Alex and our 4 grown up children who all still live at home. Pleasures outside include Spurs (that is a debatable one, obviously), skiing and single malt!
Born in Canonbury in 1971, I had the pleasure of going to Canonbury school. 26 years later my children followed in my footsteps. When my first child went there I was shocked at how small the hall was and how little the climbing frames were. My primary love (after my wife and four children) is skiing and I spent 6 years as a ski instructor in the French Alps and travelling the world. However, a broken back cut that career short. I started in estate agency in 1995, joining Hotblack Desiato in 1998 with partnership following in 2003. I ski as often as having 4 children allows me and I have a passion for architecture/ design and sailing.
I have spent the majority of my life living in various parts of Islington. I started at the firm over 25 years ago as a trainee under the tutorage of Geoffrey Hotblack and I rose to partnership in 1998. I opened the Highbury office in 2006 and ran that before handing it over to Alasdair. I now look after new business, working with developers and contractors which I am finding pleasantly challenging. To unwind, I get out my bike and go cycling – my colleagues call me a MAMIL – grossly unfair! I organise the Hotblack bike rides which are a great way for us all to get to know each other out of the office and keep fit too!
Australian born I have lived in a multitude of countries but I have now decided to settle in Britain – I used to live in Highbury but have recently moved to Kings Cross which is such a lively area to live now. Formerly a snowboarding instructor, I decided the world of estate agency had a more solid basis. I began working in Highbury in 2006 and I was promoted to lettings manager in 2007. I now manage lettings in Islington which has different challenges but, luckily, the clients still like to pop in when they can rather than email so we still keep the ‘community’ feel.
Islington born and bred, I have worked for Hotblack Desiato since 1999. I have a very sporting background in that I used to play for Leyton Orient and Arsenal and for three years was a professional tennis coach so I am not entirely sure why I chose to be an estate agent but hey ho - maybe it was the free car. Most of my colleagues say I am a little too cockey especially Lucy ( Sales Negotiator ) however I must be doing something right. Come and see me if you need to rent somewhere, whenever you like.
Hi, I’m Shell. I’ve been here with Hotblack Desiato for 10 years now, I used to deal with all the rent renewals but I now work in property management. I have a young daughter so I work from home 2 days a week, it saves me the commute and I do manage to get my work done. However, I really like the buzz of working in the Islington office on my ‘office’ days. Outside of work I am a keen runner and enjoy spending time with my family.
I am the latest member of the Hotblack Desiato Property Management Team. I have lived most of my life in Edgware and Harrow. I had never visited Islington until I had my interview, but when I arrived I felt right at home. I studied law at University, although I still have a passion for it I have always wanted to explore other fields of work and property management is suiting me well. It was a really exciting opportunity for me to be offered the job at Hotblack Desiato and I’m really enjoying working with a great team of people.
North London born and raised, I have worked in residential lettings since 2008. I spent a year in the Hotblack Lettings department before an opportunity in Sales came up that was too good to pass up and I’ve been here ever since. I take a friendly, honest, straight-down-the-line approach and am never one to beat around the bush – my clients certainly prefer it that way!
Outside of work I am a keen Spurs supporter, traveller of the world and self-confessed foodie and I love checking out the latest hotspots on London’s bar & restaurant scene (I think that’s why I like working on Upper Street so much!)
If you’re thinking of moving to this wonderful area, stop by and have a chat!

This ‘Meet the Team’ section actually inspired me to apply here and I’ve been lucky enough to join the lovely Islington office as a Sales Negotiator. Previously, I’ve worked in Sport Talent Management, Sports Retail and I was even employed as a full-time athlete in Denmark playing Handball with GB! Outside of work, I’m working on getting back my Netball form, learning Swedish, travelling and spending lots of time with my family and friends!
Hi. I am probably the most ‘local’ of us all as I live behind the Highbury office. I started working in N5, but I am now based in Islington so I now have a (very short) commute which enables me to clear my head before arriving home to deal with the needs of my teenage children.
I look after the marketing and the twitter account so anything you read on twitter is from me although I try to be representative of everyone! Contact us at @HotblackN1
Hi, my name is Ivita and I am now one of the members of the wonderful Hotblack Desiato family. I am very happy to be here and I knew I would be as soon as I stepped into the Islington office at the day of my interview! Property management is a new chapter in my nearly 10 years of experience in different areas of the property industry. I started my career as an office administrator, have been involved in lettings, Inventory providing and even surveying. In my spare time I like to keep myself active, most likely I will be out running or exploring new places and areas of the amazing city of London, I can walk for hours and hours admiring the great historical British architecture and beautiful parks. I love the rhythm and buzz of the city but at least once a year I need to get to a country side where I come originally from to enjoy the peace and quiet and re-charge my batteries!
Hello, I’m Pritesh. I have been working in property for over a year now and I genuinely love it, having previously worked for another agency in North West London I feel like Hotblack Desiato is the place to be. I studied to become a construction professional at the University of Brighton but I feel that Property Management is the way forward because I didn’t really see myself as someone who wears a hard hat and a high-vis on a regular basis. Outside of work I thoroughly enjoy live music (I’ve been to 7 festival so far and planning to do as many as I can before the old age of 30!!) and I’m also an avid Arsenal supporter. I feel quite lucky to be managing properties in the old Arsenal stadium.
Hey, my name is Daniel. I was born as raised in North London and I have been working in residential lettings since 2012. I find working with property and people on a daily basis very exciting and captivating. I was fortunate enough to join Hotblack Desiato as a Lettings Negotiator in 2014. I had a very good feeling about the company on my interview and so far so good. So a little bit about me, I’m a relatively laid back, straight forward person and always happy to help. My main interests involve keeping fit, reading, travelling and I would also consider myself a ‘Foodie’ (I think it all provides a good balance!).
